If you read Webtoon then you probably have heard of Bastard. Created by the creative duo Youngchan Hwang and Carnby Kim. Sweet Home webtoon is created by the same masterminds. Click to read Sweet Home.
Now Bastard was one of a kind. A thriller that was dark not just with blood and murder but it tapped into the gray area of our morality. With Sweet Home YoungChan Hwang and Carnby Kim did that again. Though this time they upped the scale and made it 100 times more amazing.
And here in this review we will get right into that with a few interesting updates regarding Sweet Home Webtoon and the Netflix drama adaptation that is coming out soon.

This is my first review in my blog, so for a long time, I thought about what would be the best topic to write about. I wanted to talk about something that I absolutely love. And the first thing that came into my mind was Sweet Home. So we will be talking about Sweet Home aka my new/old- have been reading it since it came out in 2018- obsession.
It will be short as I don’t wanna put spoilers here.
The theme that is in Sweet Home are thriller, horror – apocalypse. So if you are a fan of stories with such themes then this is something you will like. Not only that but Sweet Home also has a good amount of drama in it. The pacing of the story and how it is presented to us are nearly perfect. And I am not the only one thinking that as Sweet Home has an average of 9.85 stars in Line Webtoon where it is posted officially for all to read for free.
I don’t really review (used to do them on Twitter) on-going stories because it is On-going as in not finished. But I have been reading this since 2018 and if it had managed to keep me entertained for so long it probably will in the future too. I would describe myself as a hard reader to please. I am very picky about the things I read. But with Sweet Home, I was hooked right off the bat.

The story starts with a young boy who is living alone in his new apartment after the death of his family. He has just moved in and then the world comes to an end. Literally, with all the humans giving in to their inner desire and turning into monsters.
The world is going through a purification – kinda like what Covid19 is doing but more brutal.
The official synopsis goes a little bit further into the story.
“After an unexpected family tragedy, a reclusive high school student is forced to leave his home — only to face something much scarier: a reality where monsters are trying to wipe out humanity. Now he must fight alongside a handful of reluctant heroes to try and save the world before it’s too late.” – Source Line Webtoon.
By this point, the story seems pretty straightforward. So I will not go more into it as that could be ruled as a spoiler. And I don’t want to spoil the story for others. But let me just say that even though the story seems simple it is how Sweet Home is built and presented that makes all the difference. Even without the whole ‘mosterlization’ – as called in the story – the story of the protagonist is very sad and dark. The author touches on the gray areas of our morals. It is gory and intense without the blood and gore that we get in most stories that tries to be ‘Dark’.

The art follows the same concept as the story. There is little to no use of light/bright colors in Sweet Home. It is very dark, with the heavy use of red, brown or black. This really helps with the visualization of the whole story. It creates that horror, suspense, and thriller vibe that you want as you read. It keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

Another thing is that the monsters are so beautifully done. Since each monster is like an eerie manifestation of the host human’s last or strongest desire, so none of them looked the same. Each had a unique design and color. With a unique personality.
The panel showed below is one of my favorite monsters. The color, the design, and basically gives that chilling effect you want. The whole look is so creepy and it just gives you chills every time.
So enjoy him in the jumbo view.

For a webtoon Sweet Home is a huge success. So much so that it had been finalized for a drama adaptation. It has been signed by Netflix as an original. The drama is said to be released this year with the filming being already over.

Fans are rejoiced upon hearing the news. With dramas like Kingdom’s success – which is also a series based on Manhwa with the same name – we can expect something good from Netflix.
Not much has been said but recently we found out about the cast. Though no official confirmation has been made.
Even though, we don’t have an official announcement the names that are floating around for the cast are all A list actors. So we can except some amazing acting for this amazing story.

The cast is as follows with the actor’s name in Italic:
- Cha Hyun Soo will be played by Song Kang.
- Pyeon Sang Wook by Lee Jin Wook.
- Seo YiKyeong by Lee Si Young.
- Lee Eun Hyunk by Lee Do Hyun
Respectively shown in the picture at the right. So far from the photos that have been officially given to us, the costume and the lighting look very similar to what we have seen in the Sweet Home webtoon. So this does give me high hope.
Others in the cast are :
- Kim Nam Hee as Jeong Jae Heon
- Go Min Si as Lee Eun Yoo.
- Park Kyu Young as Yoon Ji Soo
- Go Yoon Jung as Park YuRi
- Kim Gab Soo as Ahn Gil Seop
- Kim Nam Hee as JayHyun
One of my favorite actor Kim Sang Ho is also in the cast though we still don’t know which character he will be playing.
So the lineup is good. And if Netflix has learned from Kingdom’s success hopefully no expense will be spared for Sweet Home as well. The uniqueness of Sweet Home is its storytelling and the Monsters. I just hope they don’t ruin them.
