Reviewing Webtoon Weak Hero

A simple one-line sentence to define Weak Hero webtoon will be, “someone who bullies, bullies.”

And is basically it.

So let us get into it!

  • Title: Weak Hero
  • Author & Artist: SEOPASS & RAZEN
  • Overall rating:  9 out of 10
  • Story:  9 out of 10
  • Art: 8.5 out of 10
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Genre: Action, School-life, Bullying, Friendship

Extra : Deserves more attention.

*Overall rating might change in the future depending on the future chapters. Since this webtoon is currently on-going.

Someone I met on Twitter suggested me to read Weak Hero. We were talking about Noblesse and other webtoons. I told her how much I enjoyed that story and was looking for something along the same line. So she suggested I should check out Weak Hero.

In her words, “The friendship and the action in here are goals!”
So I checked it out.

My first impression of this webtoon was something totally different from what I thought it would be. The action starts from the first episodes and not the way I thought it would. I was so into reading-consuming, is the right word here- that I finished the 60 chapters (that were available when I started) in one sitting. And when I finished, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Weak Hero was all I could think about and talk for days. I talked about it so much that my brother finally gave up and gave it a try.

So what is the story about then? This review will be very non-spoiler. As the story is on-going and pretty straight forward, anything I saw can be a spoiler. I feel like I already spoiled you guys with the images that I added.

So don’t look into the images too much.

The story is simple. That one line that I wrote in the beginning kinda summarizes the whole concept. But let’s read the official summary anyway.

“Once the bullies target you, it’s game over. The school is run by tyrants whose favorite hobby is tormenting the weakest kids in class. But then Gray arrived. This mysterious new student threatens to dismantle the established order. He may be small in stature, but his calculative and brutal fighting leaves unsuspecting opponents lying on the floor begging for mercy. Now the school’s toughest bullies have to scramble to take down this new and unusual hero.” – Source Line Webtoon.

The synopsis mainly focuses on the action part of the story. But it is so much more. The friendship that is shown here is literal goals. Weak Hero not only touches the topic of bullying but portraits it from the perspective of both the bullies and the victims. And when you see those weak kids standing up for themselves or for each other …..chef’s kiss.

A little bit unrealistic in the action department but the story and morals is too real. Specially who have been bullied without reason, this is a feel good story for them.

With action, drama, friendship and comedy Weak Hero is a webtoon that all would enjoy. Plus the cliffhangers…

Since we talked about the story, let’s talk about art. Many might have noticed that I score a lot in the art department. Never under a 8. I strongly believe that not all type of art suits all type of stories. Each story has their own unique flavor and the art has to compliment it.

For romance, you need an art style that is softer and bright. Where if you are reading a thriller or horror you don’t want that type of art for it. You want dark colors and more intense art with fewer dialogs. Even if it isn’t like that, it really doesn’t matter as long as it compliments the story. Plus the amount of works that goes for one panel, respect to all the artists in the world.
This is why I rate arts high cause for me that specific art style suits the story I’m reading. The ones that I choose to write about, I try to make sure that it is good at both art and story department or at least amazing enough in one of these to get us interested. If I don’t think it deserves it, I will not go into the trouble of writing a 1000+ word review about it. The overall factor matters a lot in what I choose to write.

The same thing happens here. First of all the art is gorgeous. And very detailed. A lot of visual foreshadowing. Especially the fight scenes are just awesome. Love the pace of it.

It really gives the story a better push. Also the color pallet is perfect for the theme of the story.

One of my favorite panels

The story is written by SEOPASS and the art is done by RAZEN. I honestly know nothing about them. Tried to look for them in Google but nothing came out, so…

Weak Hero is originally a Korean webtoon that is getting translated into English on the English version of the Line Webtoon app. And currently, there are 101 chapters out as I write this. More chapters are out in the original Korean version. It is updating two days a week, Tuesday and Thursday.

The reason that Weak Hero is updating two times is cause to catch up with the number of episodes that are available in the Korean version. Once it catches up, it will be updated once in a week like other webtoons. In my opinion, I think it is a good time to get started as you get to enjoy the two episodes a week.

So what are we waiting for? Click here to read.

I feel like this review was shorter then usual. What happens is that I don’t want to spoil anything as the story – first half of it – is very straight forward. But if I don’t talk about why you should check it out, why would you check it out?

It is kinda frustrating… with the non-spoiler reviews.

Anyway…hope you enjoyed this. If you liked this then you might wanna check out my other reviews on this site as well. Until next time, take care. And you guys can also follow Hana Reads on Instagram and Twitter now! Not all of the webtoons that I read make it to the blog. So I share them there. Hope you guys support Hana Reads there too!
