This Halloween instead of reading about the typical ghost and ghouls that may or may not exists, read about something that do exists and is far more scarier…the human mind.
Today I will introduce 3 of my favorite thriller webtoons from Line Webtoon app.
They are :
- PIGPEN
- Dear X
- Forest Of Human

PIGPEN

- Title: PIGPEN
- Author & Artist: Carnby Kim & Beom Sick Cheon
- Story: 10 out of 10
- Art: 10 out of 10
- Genre: Psychological Thriller & Mystery
- Status: Completed
- Overall rating: 10 out of 10

Pigpen is written by the author of Sweet Home, Bastard & Shotgun Boy Carnby Kim.
Having been read all of Carnby Kim’s work from Bastard to Sweet Home, I can say hands-down Pigpen is his best work to date.
When a guy with amnesia wakes up on an obscure island, he is greeted with a strange family full of secrets.
As he tries to piece together the puzzle of who he is what other secrets will he unlock?
A psychological thriller with all the twists that you cannot even imagine and more. The unique storytelling makes it even more peculiar & compelling. As you read the story and get further into it, it became clear that you can not trust anyone. It has a twist that you just can’t guess.

The way the artist Beom Sick Cheon used the dark monotone colors is not for the dark atmosphere but also to build the way the main character sees the world he is living in. You can feel the tension through the panels.
It is one of the best psychological thriller and mystery webtoon I have had the opportunity to read. It forces you to turn on your brain, to figure out what is going on. I couldn’t stop thinking about it when I was reading this.
It was crazy.
Fun fact: in the comment section, it became a running gag that we -the readers- were as clueless as to the MC when it came to what was going on. Everyone was making theory and in the next chapter, we realize none of those theories were even close to what was happening.
‘A relaxing getaway in paradise, or a death trap? A young man wakes up on a breathtaking beach, but he has no idea who he is or how he got there. Try as he might to piece it all together, untangling this mind-bending mystery won’t be easy when every clue leads to more maddening questions… and the family that welcomes him into their home is not what they seem.’ – Source Line Webtoon.
Dear X

- Title: Dear X
- Author & Artist: VANZIUN
- Story: 9.5 out of 10
- Art: 8.5 out of 10
- Genre: Thriller
- Status: Completed
- Overall rating: 9 out of 10
I love reading thrillers and horror. So I always thought I have tough skin for them. It didn’t matter what the author throws at me, the graphic details never made me revolt.
I was very wrong.

This story made me uncomfortable. It crawled over my skin in a way that made me feel repulsive but it was also addicting in a way that I couldn’t stop reading. It is the 2nd best psychological webtoon I read. The manipulation and the way it was done, felt very real.
The mind of sociopaths and the destruction that it causes….just wow.
The story is bittersweet and a hell of a ride! The ending is also something that really shakes me. It just proves that in society often time people who are guilty will walk away not paying for anything they did to those around them.
The art is easy for the eyes and the lack of bright, pastel-like colors sets the mood.
100% recommend it!
‘Ajin Baek is an actress at the top of her game. She has everything. She’s a beautiful, award-winning actress, the public loves her, and she’s about to announce that she’s getting married. But on the night of the award ceremony, a news program exposes the darkness behind Ajin’s glittery exterior. Just how far was Ajin willing to go to get to where she is now?’ – Source Line Webtoon.
There is a rumor of Dear X turning into a drama. So if you enjoyed the webtoon be look out for that too!
Forest of Human

- Title: Forest of Human
- Author & Artist: Junhow Hwang
- Story: 9 out of 10
- Art: 8 out of 10
- Genre: Thriller
- Status: Completed
- Overall rating: 8.5 out of 10
This was a short story that only has 20 something chapters – I read this in July.

This is about serial killers! A secret experiment was going on but a problem occurs and all the serial killers are on the loose killing everyone in the building. Can our MC survive?
This was very fun to read, in a not-so-funny way. I really loved the idea. Like what could go wrong in that situation, except you know what would go wrong. There are 12 serial killers and each is crazy. And seeing them trying to get in cahoots to leave the facility and to try to kill this one girl who could tell the world about them if she isn’t silent…was interesting.
Since it is a short webtoon, I can’t say much without spoiling it. But the female characters were strong and bold.
I loved the color palette. This rust-colored filter, it just makes the whole atmosphere seem more dreadful, which it is.
‘A secret experiment on serial killers conducted in the woods? What could possibly go wrong? Follow one young researcher’s descent into madness and self-doubt as she attempts to escape a locked facility with ten bloodthirsty murderers. Will she make it out with her humanity intact?’- Source Line Webtoon.
