If you are a reader of Webtoon from Line Webtoon, then you have heard about the GREENLiGHT event.
For those who didn’t know, Webtoon GREENLiGHT is an event launched by Line Webtoon. Every Friday three episodes are posted. If the third episode gets 60,000 likes it will become a Webtoon Original Series. So the decision is upon us – the readers- who got to choose what we wanted to read more.
In my opinion, I think this was a great opportunity for the small creators as it allows them to create a fan base purely based on their storytelling, art, and talent. The people behind those webtoons are getting feedback from the readers and even before their story is released there is a small fanbase that is ready to hype it when it is out.
You can read then webtoons that are in GREENLiGHT just by clicking here – Webtoon GREENLiGHT

So there were 9 stories, in this year’s GREENLiGHT project.
All of them were based on some sort of classics- as the name suggested retelling the classics. And we got one story every Friday. And today – July 3rd this event came to end with all of the 9 stories getting more than 60,000 likes. So all of them got GREENLiGHT!
Webtoon has announced that the webtoons part of the GREENLiGHT project will be coming out sometime at the end of this year or next year. They will come out as they were published in the project- first, come first out. So that is something to look forward to at the end of 2020.
I really enjoyed this event. The readers got to read new ideas. And all the stories were different in genres and equally different art styles to compliment them. So there was something for everyone’s taste. And the artist got one on one feedback from the readers. So GREENLiGHT in a way a success.
But the thing is, are they all that good though?
Remember we only got to read three episodes and to choose whether we like them or not. Similar to how Line Webtoon introduces its originals – 3 episodes on the day of the release. And some of the webtoons in GREENLiGHT did show more potential than others in my eyes.
These are just my opinion and thoughts. We all have different tastes and so maybe you might like the ones that I didn’t enjoy much.
I will keep on updating this post as the Webtoons get published or if a date is revealed or if we get any update on them. So make sure you keep an eye on it.
With that, let us start with the first one.

- Spells From Hell

If I was given one sentence to describe this webtoon it would be A fox-girl from hell who tries to seduce a nerd.
My first impression of this was that the art was really good. I really liked the art style. Never seen anything like that.

But the story…I’m not totally hooked with the story. Not yet. Maybe, after reading a little bit far along the way. Maybe. A part that turned me off was a dialogue by our mc, where she literally says, “I’m not like the other fox spirits” and I was like, ‘What?’
And that dialogue was in the first chapter as she was being introduced. That was a huge turn-off for me. And that is the only part of the story I remember as I write this review. All I can remember about Spells from the hell is the art and that one line.

- When Jasy Whistles

From the preview that was shown to us, four stories caught my attention like from the get-go. And this was one of them. The art was absolutely amazing. I couldn’t take my eyes off it. Just was so beautifully drawn. Look at these two panels. Beautiful!

The story is interesting. It is inspired by the Guaraní mythology.
One of the seven cursed children of Tau and Kerana, Jasy Jatere is one of the most important gods among the Guaraní speaking cultures of South America, especially in Paraguay.
Mix that mythology with modern-day, and a missing best friend to rescue we got ourselves a story. What I think I like is that the first episode, showed was how tribes are breaking apart and leaving the village, to live in the cities. And old traditions are dying cause of it. This is something I understand, so really felt that.
So yeah I’m looking forward to it.
- Finding Wonderland

- Title: Finding Wonderland
- Author & Artist: Alya Rehman & roousuu
- Story: 9 out of 10
- Art: 9 out of 10

It is a twist on Alice in Wonderland, but with more twists. You will know what I meant when you check it out. I was hooked after the first episode. The neon colors catch your attention from the get go. And then the story works its magic. One of the best in GREENLiGHT.

I love Alice in Wonderland theme stuff, and this is one of the most unique way one could intertwine the story. Both the story of the webtoon and art are absolutely brilliant. This is one of my favorite. And I’m really excited about this one.
- The Wendybird

- Title: The Wendybird

A retelling of Peter Pan. More of the feminist version.
I honestly didn’t like this story much. Though the art is good. I didn’t like how the character is forcing herself to be this over the top feminist. The message is transparent and forced. Maybe it could have been written a little differently to prevent that ‘In your face’ feminism that it has. A lot of the other readers showed a similar concern about this. So I hope the author considered those and change the writing. Otherwise, it will be a shame, cause the readers did gave it a GREENLiGHT.

- Madame Outlaw

- Title: Madame Outlaw
- Author & Artist: Alya Rehman & Junk Rey
- Story: 7 out of 10
- Art: 8 out of 10
- Genre: Historical, Drama, Action, and Romance.
- Overall rating: 7 out of 10

Another strong female protagonist, who isn’t consumed by hate for men. She is more mature and thought out. As the story opens you know where every character stands through their actions instead of them just saying it. This normally isn’t my genre but I love the character design and I am excited to read this.
This one is better written then the previous one. Plus the art is awesome.

- Escape from Oz

- Title: Escape From OZ
- Author & Artist: Kelly Angel
- Story: 9 out of 10
- Art: 7 out of 10
- Genre: Comedy & Drama.
- Overall rating: 8 out of 10
I don’t know what happens here. Wizard of Oz on crack?
The first thought that came to mind when I was reading this was that the author was probably on crack or this is some type of fever dream.
I honestly have never rated a story higher than its art. But here we are. I think for this particular webtoon the story is one that carries it. The art isn’t your typical ‘pretty’ art style. But that is what compliments this story so well. The fever dream of a webtoon deserves an art style that can truly capture its craziness.

The story is absurd. But that is what makes it so funny. As the story is under comedy it makes more sense. But it is the charm of this one. Everyone of us who read it was confused and laughing at the same time. We had no idea what was going on but we were enjoying it. It was funny.
Just read the next few panels.

I actually laughed for a whole minute after reading this panel. By the end of the third episode, I was in love. And Beautiful Steve is WOW.
- Forever After

- Title: Forever After
- Author & Artist: Quinn Sosna-Spear & Aleikats

- Art: 9 out of 10
- Genre: Comedy, Drama, and Romance(?).

I am a sucker for Fairy Tales. And from the preview, I knew this will be related to the fairy tales – was hoping something like Once Upon A Time. So this was the third story that had my attention from the beginning. And it didn’t let me down. Absolutely loved this one!
Our protagonist Robin had always wanted to be a princess. Instead, she became a prince who has to save all the princesses in the fairy tales.
Can’t wait for it to come out.

It is funny and very well thought out.
The art is perfect. If I could I would have shown you guys the whole chapter because it is that funny! And the art, it does make it 100 times better. Can’t wait for this one.

Edit – Unfortunatly the artist who worked on the preview didn’t joined the team after the webtoon got GREENLiGHT. So a new artist had to took over. Honestly the new art style isn’t bad but I have already seen the story in the previous art style and now no matter how much I want, the new art just feels off for me.

Same part with the new art. I am going to delete the link to the preview episodes for this one, cause once you read those, you won’t be able to fully love the new style.
- The Cold Case Detective

- Title: The Cold Case Detective
- Author & Artist: David Lee & M.salmons
- Story: 8 out of 10
- Art: 8 out of 10
- Genre: Mystery, Crime.
- Overall rating: 8 out of 10
If you are a fan of Sherlock then is for you. A mix between Sherlock and Detective Conan in a way. I love crime stories. So I had my eyes on it from the start. But when I knew it was about Sherlock I was over the moon. Because I LOVE Sherlock!

After the end of BBC Sherlock we Sherlockian were starving for any Sherlock crumbs and this will feed us until Season 5 comes out….if it ever comes out.
I also loved the art and color scheme for this webtoon.
Edit – Apprently this will also have artist change. So this style is not going to be the one we will get when the webtoon gets published….who knows when that will be……
- The Last Bloodline

- Title: The Last Bloodline
- Author & Artist: Quinn Sonsa-Spear & weyowang
- Story: 8 out of 10
- Art: 9 out of 10
- Genre: Supernatural and Drama.
- Overall rating: 8 out of 10
This one is very interesting. A vampire story but you can’t just use the word ‘Vampire’ to define it. It has a hint of Greek Mythology.
The art is beautiful. Very detailed. and the story is very well written. And it touches other vampire stories too. Like Le Fanu’s Carmilla and Dracula are both in here. Hopefully, in future episodes, we will get more of the classic Vampires that we have read about.
Few snaps of the chapters.

Can not wait for these stories to get out and us to read them.
The ones that I’m waiting for are The last Bloodline, The Cold-Case Detective, Forever After, Finding Wonderland, and Jasy Whistle.
